Catch a Rangers Game And See the Skyline at Reunion Tower in Dallas

In Dallas, we had the chance to watch the Rangers at Globe Life Field and take in the views from the top of Reunion Tower.

Reunion Tower

Standing at a height of 561 feet in the heart of downtown Dallas, Reunion Tower is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.  From the top, visitors can take in the views of the Dallas skyline and landmarks. The tower is in the same complex as the Hyatt Regency Dallas, so you can stay close by for the night.

The tower is illuminated at night with 259 exterior LED lights.

Finding the Ticket Desk

We had a bit of trouble figuring out how to get to the elevator, but were told to take the escalator down, then found the ticket desk, and finally the elevator.

Then, after a short wait, we headed up. It is a glass-walled elevator, so you can look out as you go.

At the Top

Once out of the elevator, we walked around the observation deck.

One information board describes the nearby tall buildings, including Bank of America Plaza and the Renaissance Tower.

You can see the Sixth Floor Museum, with its primary exhibit, John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation, which provides historical context for the events of November 22, 1963, and the aftermath of the assassination that took place nearby.

Old Red Courthouse

The historic Old Red Courthouse, built in 1892, houses the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals and is visible from here.

Look for the Cotton Bowl and the Texas State Fairgrounds. You can also see nearby bridges over the Trinity River.

Best of all you really gain some good views of the Dallas skyline from this vantage point.

My son is working the crank machine.

In the Observation Deck there is also a crank machine where you can turn a penny into a unique souvenir.

History

The building was completed on Feb. 2, 1978, along with the Hyatt Regency Dallas. It was part of a redevelopment project that included the nearby historic Union Station.

The name is from La Réunion, a short-lived 19th-century French utopian colony once located in present-day downtown Dallas.

Hotel Time

Next, we headed to Arlington, Texas, to settle in at the Drury Plaza Hotel. We like these hotels since they have an evening snack and drink service and a morning buffet. This one also has a nice-sized pool that my son enjoyed.

Game Time

After relaxing at the hotel, we drove to the parking lot for the Texas Rangers game at Globe Life Field.

The stadium with a retractable roof was opened in the summer of 2020. It can hold 40,000 fans. It was built to combat the Texas heat.

The stadium they originally played in is still nearby.

Next, we settled in to watch the game. It seemed modern, it included a large TV screen, which allowed for more digital programming, although I missed some of the more human programming at other stadiums. It was nice that it was air-conditioned. We were high up but still had good sight lines.

Game on!

The food choices were varied enough, along with the usual hot dogs and beer. Overall, a decent stadium.
